International Circulation: Do you think it is an interesting coincidence that a vice president of the ESH is also a geneticist?

　　Prof. Arnett: It is a very fast growing and promising field. People are recognizing this and are eager to see more.

　　International Circulation: And what about lifestyles?

　　Prof. Arnett: I am not sure we have tried hard enough to affect people’s lifestyles. People do not understand that health is a sustainable entity that needs to be taken care of throughout our life. People need and want to know how to be healthy. As we look at the work place and health care costs go up for companies there is going to be a tremendous transition to this concept of changing behaviors and the environment to make people healthy.

　　International Circulation: Even at conferences like the AHA， prevention is not a major issue. Most are on treatment. Do you think this should be more of a focus for the NIH or funding or research into making people live healthier lives?

　　Prof. Arnett: I do not know what the NIH will do， I would personally advocate for more behavioral research. The answer will be larger than just research. It will take policy changes， advocacy， and multi-sector approaches in government， business， academia， the NIH， and the AHA.

　　Prof. Arnett:  We at the AHA have a strong advocacy component， the You’re the Cure Network， where we encourage all of our members to volunteer and become active in advocacy.
